Three new partners help ShineWing Australia to found offices in Sydney and Brisbane
Following a recent name change and shift in strategy, ShineWing Australia, an independent accountancy firm headquartered in Melbourne, needed help rapidly expanding into Sydney and Brisbane.
The problem: entrepreneurial partners required to exploit new business opportunities
ShineWing Australia was seeking to move away from a traditional English-style brand and focus. Seeing the success of their associates in China, where ShineWing is the largest accountancy firm outside of the Big 4, they wanted to exit their existing global network in favour of a network centred around China.
An independent Melbourne firm within their former network, they found themselves purely Melbourne-based. Predicting that many high-value opportunities would come via clients whose Australian assets and operations were mostly in Queensland and New South Wales, it was imperative that ShineWing developed a presence in these ‘northern states’ as soon as possible.

Using our extensive local knowledge and experienced in-house research team we conducted a thorough search for talent to head up the Sydney and Brisbane offices. Having identified three candidates who were prepared to have an exploratory conversation we then helped prepare business cases for the consideration of ShineWing Australia’s Managing Partner and board. Following approval, the three new partners were appointed.
The results: growth-focused partners founded and launched new offices in Sydney and and Brisbane, and ShineWing expanded into new markets
ShineWing’s new Brisbane Office Managing Partner was essentially founder of the firm’s presence in Queensland. A particularly high-profile tax professional, he was recruited from one of the Big 4 firms in Brisbane, where he was the Head of Tax.
Of the two partners recruited to head up the new Sydney office, one specialises in Chinese Business Services while the other is a highly-regarded Private Client and Private Business Tax Consulting Partner.
The firm’s first three leaders outside of Melbourne, these partners’ initial successes provide a beachhead into new markets and help re-position the firm to take advantage of high-value opportunities emerging from China.
